Thank you for coming. You’re witnessing a phenomenon of great proportions!  My first blog.

Actually your being here is all a part of the grand scheme of things-it’s the reason behind all these hoarded thoughts and pent up words that will give way and spill onto this digital platform called, BLOG!

Inspiration…hope…motivation…let’s go…my tagline.

There’s a sense of urgency here.  Let me tell you a true story.

My pastor died suddenly in August 2015.  One day he was here and the next day he wasn’t.  Working with him for 20 years as his Executive Coordinator, Dr. Phillip M. Davis of Nations Ford Community Church, Charlotte, NC, was not only my pastor, but my boss, mentor, and a man of immense wisdom.   His heart and passion was to see people reach their full potential.  That was his “brand”.

A few months before he passed, as we were going over his very full schedule, I was blindsided by a trajectory of words that seemingly had no place in the conversation.  “You must write your blog – you’ve got to write your blog”, he hurled.

“Uh, ok, I will”, I sheepishly responded.  I mean what else could I say after that onslaught.  He knew I had written a book, had begun to write for Lifeway and that there was so much more in me that had to get out.  He also knew that I procrastinate.  So many excuses, valid ones at that, like full time Executive Coordinator!   And then other reasons that satisfied my “do nothing much with what I got” stance and legitimized those convenient obstacles that lulled me into a fear filled stupor.  We’ll talk more about that in blogs to come.

I am now retired!  After a feeble, albeit futile search, the well of excuses is exhausted, it’s empty!

So here it is.

My passion and mandate is to instill hope and propel others to dig deep, uncork their dreams, gifts, skills, and passion. No matter your age, accomplishments or lack thereof, if you’re still breathing, there’s greatness in us all and much for us to do and to give.  Through my written and spoken words, my intent is to leave my audience restless until they are fully engaged in their God given assignment.

I intend to cause a disturbance in your status quo to get you to move from complacency and even to get unstuck.  You’ll be presented a choice- to think there’s nothing more for you to do or to decide to change, even if it’s just that one thing you believe can’t or won’t budge.   I will engage your feelings to consider unusual possibilities.   I will dare you to think in big bites and open your mind’s eye to see the brilliant light of Hope that you can make a difference in your world, my world and the world that awaits you.

God had written and ordered up the best for you.  If your life is pretty wonderful and you’re thinking, “it’s all good”, well news flash for you, it’s  designed  to get even better.  If you’re teetering on doubt and about to lose hope or still in search of it, I hope to meet you here every week. If you are standing confidently in your purpose, pursuing your dream and making it happen, visit my blog often. Your story will encourage me and others who come to visit. Plus I love a good story!

I recently attended a book premiere event by Valerie Lawson Watkins, the author of No Sad Story.  I was one of several writers, authors, entrepreneurs, social change agents and other creative folks asked to give their impression of her work.   This inspirational “read in one sitting” story of her mother’s insurmountable obstacles, overcoming faith and the power to forgive the unforgiveable is a book you must have.   Valerie also encouraged those who spoke to share projects we were working on.  After informing the audience of my book, A Good Work Begun, other published works completed, works underway,  I found myself encouraging the room not to sit on the gifts and passions that God placed within them, that someone needs what they have.  By the way, I put myself on blast that my first blog had to be published by midnight, December 31, 2015. Whew!  I made it.

Valerie said in her thank you note to me, Your presence made a difference in the room. Your words of wisdom and motivation prompt an element of urgency in our spirits.”   That’s what this blog is poised to do.

So come on, let’s go.  My mother used to say, “it won’t be as long as it has been!”.

I hope to meet you again in a few days.  In the words of the Beverly Hillbillies, “ya’ll come back now, ya hear!”

Happy 2016!
